Enhance your overall liquid manure management with Manure Master Plus – PA. It helps manure digestion and liquefaction, minimizes barn and field odors, reduces top crusting and bottom solids, enhances [would like a different word here] soil health and crop performance, alleviates pest presurre, and improves nutrient retention.

Manure Master Plus-PA Tech Sheet

Q| What kind of bacteria are in Manure Master Technology (MMT)?
A |Thiobacillus purple sulfur group. The product has a sulfur odor
when first applied.

Q| Why is MMT different from all other products?
A| MMT has the bacteria found naturally in the environment. This
live bacteria is then introduced back into manure management
problem areas needing treatment.

Q| Will MMT harm animals or humans?
A| MMT is USDA-approved for use in federally inspected meat and
poultry processing plants. It is non-toxic and non-pathogenic to
humans and animals.

Q How long will MMT bacteria live?
A| MMT bacteria will live a minimum of three to five years and, if
frozen, will activate when thawed at room temperature.

Q| What will MMT do?
A| Solids will break down into a liquid slurry, which makes easier
pump-out. The value of this liquid is enhanced by the retention of
more NPK for fertilizer use. Odors are substantially reduced.

Q| What physical signs indicate MMT is working?
A| A greyish scum may form at the top of pits/lagoons; bubbling
and foaming may occur. Pit/lagoon odors may increase briefly.
Chunks of solids may appear at surface of pits/lagoons. All of
these signs are occurring because MMT is breaking up solids
and releasing pent-up gases.

Q| Does MMT work on dry crusted matter on top of pits/
lagoons?

A| Yes. There will be a break down of solid crusted material and an
eventual disappearance of the crust. Application rates for initial
purge should be increased to twice the recommended amount.

Q| What steps should be taken in case of spills into pits? (feed,
straw, wood shavings)

A Increase the weekly application rate to twice the recommended
amount. The size of the spill may require a call to the “Manure
Master Hotline” for more exact application rates.
Q| MMT does not appear to be working? Why?
A| MMT will work in almost all situations except in the presence of
high acid water, large applications of chemical feed additives,
disinfectants, copper sulfate and antibiotics. MMT application
rate adjustments are needed to handle the above referenced issues.
Call the “Manure Master Hotline,” describe the problem and
ProfitProAG will assist.

Q| When should MMT be started?
A| MMT treatment can start any time during the year up to one month
before pump-out. The best time to start MMT is after pump-out. Add
MMT when liquid levels are 6 to 12 inches in pits/lagoons.

Q| Since a larger amount is used on a purge application, will the
purge amount be used at every pump-out?

A| No. The purge amount is only used once as long as the proper
maintenance application is used. The bacteria will reproduce and
live in the liquid that’s left behind after pumping. However, if the
pit/lagoon is completely emptied, the purge amount will need to be
used again.

Q| Where is MMT applied?
A| If odors are emanating from a confinement barn and lagoon, apply
MMT directly into pit and allow material to flow into the lagoon
or holding area. If solids are a problem in the lagoon, apply MMT
directly into lagoon from a position farthest away from the pumping
station.

Q| If several feet of solids are on the bottom of a lagoon, what will
MMT do?

A| There are documented case histories of solid buildup in lagoons
of over five feet. After use of MMT, solid buildup was reduced.
The rate of bottom sludge reduction depends on the rate of daily
flow and proper, constant application. Call the “Manure Master
Hotline” to develop a strategy to reduce bottom sludge.

Q| Should agitation equipment be used for pits/lagoons?
A| Agitation may help, especially when there is a thick top crust or
bottom solids. However, agitation is not necessary because the
microbes will move throughout the manure and agitate it from
bottom to top.

Q| Why is there a pink to purple cast on the lagoon?
A| This condition is the optimum outcome with MMT use

Jason Johnson started treating his slatted beef barns in November of 2016 with Manure Master Plus™ and Pit Accelerator™. Previously he had encountered major issues with hydrogen sulfide, which can have a deadly impact on both humans and cattle during pump-out. This fall, during pumpout, Jason was impressed with the very low to zero hydrogen sulfide meter readings. He also noted that by treating the manure pits with Manure Master products, the agitation process took half of the time in comparison to the previous year’s pump-outs—a factor that also reduced time and fuel cost. On the manure nutrient analysis side, the available nitrogen values of 23 pounds per 1,000 gallons last year doubled to 52 pounds per 1,000 gallons this year, a huge agronomic payback.
